Exhibit of Optical Toys

Today for seminar we were going to go and look at this site and comment on what we thought of it. When I looked at it, I was able to only look at the main page, which has some interesting things, but other than that the site was pretty much off limits to me. I liked what it showed though it was quite interesting and fun.

Happy Halloween

I know this is after Halloween, but I posted this at around midnight so MEH!

Happy Halloween to all and all a good fright... I leave you with a scary song that I personally feel in love with.

Child's Play - Gothika
Where are my eyes?
Where is my lip?
Why is here a place
cold darkness here?

There are children playing
in a mirror.
laughter does not leave under the
labyrinth

Red blood gets my body wet
And who is killing me?

Where is my hair?
Where is my foot?
Why is here a place
cold darkness here?

want to feel warmth of
skin gets wet as having got wet
and rain
And who is killing me?

Happy Halloween

Chesspiece

At the end of the chess board.

This is piece is based off the rule of chess that when a pawn reaches the end of your opponent's side you can return your vanquished queen. The pawn though a generally the weakest piece, can become the most powerful and one of the most precious pieces of the game, the queen. I wanted it to seem to have the meaning of even when you are the weakest you can overcome the odds-shown in my drawing by the decaying chess board and vortex in the background-and become one of the most powerful and important piece in the end.

I used negative space to give it a darker feel, using the bold lines and the shading to make it seem like it was being pulled into the vortex as the pawn reached the end of the chess board. Though I struggled to keep my values in balance, and also keeping my piece in balance with itself, I was able to achieve it using the background, I also had problems trying to make my lines look purposeful.

I am pleased on how it turned out, the sinking feeling of the picture and the small fragility of the pawn, also the shading turned out better than I had hoped.

Logo Assignment Final

Logo Assignment

This is my logo assignment, in which my company is a graphic design company that specializes in advertisement for big or little companies, or any thing really that needs to be advertised. I can advertise for any piece of media, be it a company itself, or an event, even media advertisement-Shows, movies, video games etc.-I can also do small things for a personal things, i.e. making a poster for someone or such.

The personality for my company is supposed to be something different, creative and edgy. I want to seem very stable and dependable, while also seeming very free and artistic, even when I have my own little uniqueness.

My animal is a pegasus which since it is two animals merged into one gives off a double message, one from being a horse which means stability, strength and nobility, but the wings which represent a bird gives off the message of being free, creativity, and calm, which I find helps show the whole personality of my company.

For my first logo-the pictorial-I used white outlines and a cerulean blue for it, blue stands for calm, wisdom, creativity and power, with the shade that I choose it stands out well and also pops well, its a memorable color. With the black and white version I picked a solid black one with the white outlines again, I think that the white outlines look very professional and also when put on white or black paper it will stand out just fine.

For my second logo, I picked two different fonts for it.
My pictorial and typographic logos.

The Third Class Carriage

The Third Class Carriage
by Daumier

In CyberARTS we had made a charcoal grid of Daumier's artwork. "The Third Class Carriage", we each did the squares individually without actually knowing what the picture was to give ourselves a chance to make this picture without being influenced by the original artwork. Then when Ms. McFadyen took a picture of it then gave us the assignment of taking the picture and cropping it, adding contrast and making it as realistic as possible, this is my end result.

Picture Albums

For class we were requested to find an online album for our work in class. I use tinypic and photobucket as well, I use both because with tinypic you have unlimited bandwidth and smaller URLs, but with photobucket I use it because its easier to upload on on-you are able to put multiple ones at a time-and you can also categorize/edit it on it, but photobucket URLs do not work on some things so tinypic is simple to use in that sense.

Rhythm Assignment

In CyberARTS we were to do a rhythm assignment using lines, one only going one direction, the other going any direction we wished, here is the first one:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Line 1

The first rhythm drawing is of white on black lines with arrows on the end going down, the only thing about it is it varies in distance and slightly in width. The lines look like its falling and the arrows that are pointing down help with that theory, but because of the way the line starts out thin then goes out for a larger thickness, the the arrows starting off thick then going thinner makes it appealing to look at.

Line 2
Our second line drawing was allowed to go in any direction, so for this one I used vertical and diagonal to give this appealing design to look at. I made a design by making some of the lines thinker and having new lines added on as thicker line.

The Penitent Magdalen

I will be critiquing "The Penitent Magdalen" by La Tour, on Imitational, Emotional and Formal aspects, this picture shows a of a young woman looking in the mirror with some sort in eager desire or want, a flame shadow casting the whole picture.

Imitationalism

This picture is tremendously lifelike, the colors are mainly whites and reds, but with the shading added in makes it seem lifelike, and almost touchable, though the fac there in no reflection in the mirror of the woman makes it seem off, the flame adding into the shading and the reflection of the candle makes it seem like its a photograph or staring at the person themself.

Emotionalism

The feel of this is very surreal, the light colors and how they work with each also though you barely see the woman's face, it seems almost surreal in that sense, but then because of the dark shading and the way it effects the painting it completely changes the surrealism of the painting almost turning it to seem as if it there is something to fear, and since we cannot see the subject's the description of the painting is left very open ended.

Formalism

The picture shows unity in a sense that the darkness of the picture is greatly balanced out by the light coming from the candle, and the tint it gives to the rest of the picture.
